University of Haifa – Prof. David Farji, the new Rector, denounces the Ariel cultural boycott as "not legitimate"

Haifa University's new rector, Professor David Farji added that it was the lecturers' right not to go to the territories for ideological motives, but that a boycott was not legitimate.

"The Ariel college is a wonderful institution responsible for serious studies. There is no doubt as to its legitimacy, regardless of its geographic location," he said.

A Review of the Bash-Israel Pre-Conference organized by Far-Leftist Academics prior to the Prestigious International Geographical Union’s regional conference held in Tel Aviv

As happens so often, the ideological opinion offered by Israeli scholars, under the banner of free speech and pluralism, at these conferences was primarily monolithic, anti-Israel, and leftist. If scholars were somehow still able to leave these conferences with a neutral or positive view about Israel, it was in spite of the best efforts of Israel’s academics who organized the pre-conferences, not because of them.

... For Newman, only one voice should be heard in a democratic society, the voice of critique and anti-state hatred. The only ‘beacon of light’ in Israel are the organizations and individuals who compare the country to a fascist state and the only “value” of democracy is the voice of extremism. On the other side democracy is having a “black day” when other organizations use free speech to critique those who critique.

University of Haifa – Sami Smooha (Department of Sociology) claims the Jewish State of Israel cannot be “both democratic and Jewish”

Sami Smooha, who is professor of sociology at the University of Haifa, said that Israel is neither a liberal nor a constitutional democracy, but something special. In the past he has termed Israel an “ethnic democracy,” but he now declined to use any term containing the word “democracy” to describe Israel. He emphasizes that he is a sociologist, not a political philosopher, and as such he maintains that Israel cannot be both democratic and Jewish. ... As an antidote to Israel’s specialness Smooha recommends a special kind of anti-Semitism. Smooha argues that Israel’s Jews don’t want a Jewish and democratic state but rather a Zionist and democratic state, which is somehow worse. A “Zionist” state maintains that it is connected to all the world’s Jews and engages in Zionist “projects,” such as settling Jews in Israel, trying to create an amalgamated Jewish identity out of new immigrants, and consolidating Jewish dominance through law and politics. ... Smooha’s call for an “end to the millet system” is code for repealing legislation that takes into account the Jewish identity of Israeli citizens. ...Smooha’s vision is an Israel without a national or ethnic identity, albeit a state with a lot of Jews—much like Florida. There would be this significant difference: Unlike Florida, in this state a particular ethnic minority does get to be recognized as an official “national minority,” with cultural autonomy and other semi-national rights.

... He wants the Palestinians to be Palestinians and the Jews to be democratic, and essentially he calls on Israel’s Jews to discriminate against themselves. His justification is that the Jews are colonial settlers and therefore don’t really have rights. He did say that he thinks Israel’s Jews have the right to self-determination though not sovereignty. But it is hard to see how Jewish self-determination could find expression if his laundry list of policy recommendations were adopted.

University of Haifa - Ron Kuzar (Dept of English Literature) Stars at the Conference Demanding the Destruction of Israel

The University of Haifa event was evidently an initiative once again of the Arab student union. Held in the large Safdia Auditorium on campus with about 30 people in the audience, the “conference” consisted of two anti-Israel Arab speakers and one anti-Israel Jewish speaker. This is pluralism and balance these days in Israeli academia.

Kuzar states: “Israeli-Zionist ethnicity is an injurious discriminatory one inside Israel, a thieving and apartheid set of policies towards Palestinians.”

Isracampus Update:
The entire videotape of Kuzar’s speech at the “Destroy Israel Day” symposium is now available and can be viewed by anyone. At least anyone with a strong stomach. The speech appears here:
Part I: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xNHhCWsHL0
Part II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rENnFW4S87o

(Youtube only allows tapes up to 10 minutes so it had to be broken into two sections to post) The video quality in not the best but Kuzar’s words can be clearly heard and it can be clearly seen that it is Kuzar speaking.

Anyone with the slightest doubt as to the accuracy of what was cited above is invited to sit through his recorded talk.

So what are we to make of the fact that Kuzar falsely denied those very same citations when attributed to him, lying boldfaced to the entire academic staff of the University of Haifa? Kuzar also deliberately posted his (sanitized? fabricated?) alleged “lecture notes” to convey an incorrect representation of what he said in his talk. He lied so many times on the Segel Plus list in the past two weeks that I am not sure I can count all the instances.

So just how does Kuzar now propose to explain his behavior? Well, we thought we would help him out a bit with this. We have prepared a list of excuses from which he can choose one, just placing an “X” next to the one that appeals to him most:

1. Kuzar’s dog ate the REAL lecture notes for his talk.
2. The real Ron Kuzar is being held in an island with an iron mask on his face and his evil twin gave the talk at the “Destroy Israel Day” symposium.
3. The symposium talk was presented by a clone of Ron Kuzar developed by biomed scientists at the Technion war institution.
4. Kuzar forgot what he himself had said at the symposium.
5. Aliens from outer space took control of Kuzar’s mouth and made him say what he said at the symposium.
6. The youtube tapes were falsified by the SHABAK in the same way that the Gaza Flotilla tapes were, and Kuzar has Hamas witnesses to prove it.
7. It was not really Kuzar speaking those words but people hidden outside the Safdie auditorium on a grassy knoll.
8. A dybbuk took possession of Kuzar’s soul until it can be exorcised.
9. “Who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes?” (--Richard Pryor)
10. Let’s hire Johnny Cochrane and then go see if we can find the REAL lecturer who gave that talk.

University of Haifa - Uri Bar-Joseph (Dept of International Relations) Fabricates "New History"; Discovers that Israel Itself Caused the 1973 Yom Kippur War because it refused to make peace with Egypt

In other words, Israel had two options: to progress with a diplomatic process that guaranteed, already at the start, a peace agreement with Egypt in exchange for the evacuation of all of Sinai, or to enter a war that the Arab side would initiate with the goal of motivating Israel to embark on such a diplomatic process.

University of Haifa - Dalit Baum (Dept of Women's Studies) trains how to boycott Israel at an International Solidarity Movement meeting

Dalit Baum gives a lecture on how to boycott Israel during her ISM tour to the US. She discusses the scanner at the Kalandia checkpoint and describes her activities that got the Danish parliament to stop selling the Dutch-made scanner to Israel. Baum also gives details on how she got Dexia bank to stop loaning money to Jews for homes in settlements.

University of Haifa - A Covert Look at Dalit Baum (Dept of Women's Studies)

Dalit Baum’s specialty is promoting BDS, or Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel as a modern extension of the Arab League Boycott. As a radical member of the Coalition of Women for Peace, an NGO set up mostly by lesbian academics in support of the Arabs getting whatever they want from Israel, Dalit Baum has further carved out a niche for herself in the subgroup titled Who Profits From the Occupation? You want to know who profits from the “Occupation”? Dalit Baum profits, that’s who. Baum was the founder of the radical group Black Laundry that is composed of radical lesbians who support the misogynist Arabs in their quest to dismantle the Jewish state.

University of Haifa – Avraham Oz (Dept of Theater) smears Israel Science Adviser Professor Israel Hanokuglo

To represent this as "racism" or "racialism" is the height of absurdity. Similar genetic research has been used to show that in some rural English regions the population is descendent from Flemish migrants. In fact, the disease in question is also common among Jews who emigrated from Syria. The Left has launched a libel campaign against Hanokuglo. In the message below is a letter being circulated by one Abraham Oz, a Theater lecturer at the University of Haifa and a far-leftist. The message speaks for itself, and will -- in all probability -- form the basis of a libel suit against Abraham Oz by Dr. Hanokuglo.

The IDF shows discrimination: ignores the insubordination of 350 academic “rabbis” and the anti-Israel ALEF forum at Haifa University

The IDF also has a hesder (arrangement) with the University of Haifa, where some 40 staff members signed a petition calling for insubordination. At that university, senior officers from the National Security College study for a master's degree (Ilan Pappe also taught in that program). In addition, naval cadets and officers from Military Intelligence study there for bachelor's degrees. And lo and behold, in the university's central computer, in a file entitled "war criminals," a group called Aleph published photographs of dozens of officers and by doing so blacklisted them. (The list includes Gabi Ashkenazi, Yohanan Locker, Yigal Slovik, Yoav Mordechai, Avi Blot, Yuval Halamish, Herzi Halevi and Gur Rosenblatt, as well as former foreign minister Tzipi Livni.)

University of Haifa – Haggai Kupermintz remains unrepentant in his participation in a blood libel

Recently University of Haifa lecturer in "peace education," Haggai Kupermintz, was taken to task for never having apologized for being one of the signatories on a petition from a few years ago containing a blood libel. The petition accused Israel of planning to conduct genocidal atrocities the moment the Allied invasion of Iraq was to begin. The war and came went and no Israeli genocide against Arabs. Kupermintz never retracted or apologized for his role in this. The petition was published on the pro-jihad Aljazeera and on many other anti-Semitic web sites.

When challenged about this on the "Segel-Plus" chat list of University of Haifa faculty members, Kupermintz posted this response:

RE: [Segel-plus] Fw: Conceits of the Academic Far Left

Ah, but you got it all wrong, Stevie! In fact, word got out to the Bush administration that the infamous leftist, Marxist, Antisematic (sic), Noe-Nazi (sic), Anachist (sic), Self-hating Jewboy Mafia of the Haifa branch of Bir Zeit university is behind the petition. As if Saddam wasn't enough... He immediately and personally gave orders to halt the cleansing operation. We understand your frustration that we saved our beloved Palestinian people, but at least give us credit for our achievement. Surly, you know what we eldres (sic) can accomplish. Don't under estimate us!

A Little Problem of Consistency at the University of Haifa

A university in Norway is calling for worldwide boycotts of Israel. Meanwhile the president and the rector of the University of Haifa have taken to the airwaves to denounce that initiative. See this: http://newmedia-eng.haifa.ac.il/?p=1415

The only problem? They have done nothing about the members of the faculty at the University of Haifa who are themselves calling for a worldwide boycott of Israel! Prof. Daphna Carmeli, Prof. Yoram Carmeli, and Prof. Vered Kraus are listed here.

These University of Haifa leftist anti-Zionists were calling for such a boycott against Israel and against Israeli universities even before the recent call for such a boycott issued by anti-Israel extremist Neve Gordon from Ben Gurion University.

University of Haifa – Student Union Head claims that Haifa U management turns a blind eye to far-leftist indoctrination

The Haifa University Student Union has distributed a calendar diary containing an advertisement calling readers to know who the “anti-Israeli lecturers” are, in Haifa U. and in other academic institutions throughout Israel. The advertisement contains the web address of IsraCampus – a website devoted to exposing lecturers who are employed in Israeli universities, yet openly agitate against the state of Israel. ... The head of the Haifa University Student Union, Felix Kuritni, said that he believes that the decision to print the advertisement was justified. “Students who study here need to know who their lecturers are and if there are lecturers who oppose the State of Israel it is important to publish their names. ... Unfortunately the campus management turns a blind eye and continues to allow all kinds of political cells like Hadash and Balad to hold conventions on campus.”

University of Haifa – YNet quotes University and Student Union Heads defending IsraCampus.Org.il’s right to publish ad that denounces Anti-Israel Lecturers in Student Union daily planner

Students at Haifa University are outraged over the contents of an ad included in a daily planner distributed by the Student Union at the beginning of the academic year. The ad urges students to become aware of "anti-Israel lecturers" from universities across the country, including the Haifa institute. A complaint was sent to University President Professor Aaron Ben Ze'ev pointing to incitement. … Chairman Felix Koritney commented, "It's an advertisement bought and published in the planner as by other advertisers. We went over the content and it is fine by us. It informs the students, in the way other websites inform of corruption and ethics violations…Students should know who they take classes with. We love the State of Israel and support it and see no wrong with the ad." Haifa University issued a statement reading, "In accordance with its policy and the student rights law, the University of Haifa allows freedom of speech on campus, even when it opposes the contents of opinions, so long as no State laws were violated."

University of Haifa - Israel hater Micah Leshem (Dept of Psychology), cheers on Neve Gordon's call for a Boycott against Israeli "apartheid"

There is no consensus on political issues, theories abound, and Gordon, as a political scientist, has one which he propounds. Quite possibly his LAT article reflects his personal views too, but in this particular case there is a grey area between his personal views and his professional analyses, and that is what lends credence to his analysis and probably irks the rightists no end. It is both his academic and personal freedom that irks them, ie his freedom to express views they loath.

University of Haifa – Micah Leshem (Dept of Psychology) Supports Gordon's Call for Worldwide boycott of Israel

On Thursday, August 20 the LA Times published an op-ed in which Ben Gurion University Professor Neve Gordon wrote that the question that kept him up at night, both as a parent and as an Israeli citizen, was how to ensure that his two children as well as the children of his Palestinian neighbors do not grow up in an apartheid regime. He concluded that the only thing that the only workable solution would be "massive international pressure." (1) Following the publication of the article there has been such a vehement and aggressive attack against Gordon in Israel (2), that we believe "massive international pressure" will be needed to keep him from being fired from his job.

We are protecting here more than one person and one job. Help us protect the ability to talk openly about the Israeli occupation and about nonviolent options to address it, such a boycott, divestment, and sanctions.

University of Haifa – A.B. Yehoshua can’t seem to tell the difference between reality and the plot of one of his stories

I have long felt that many of the finest creative minds in the literary world, whether poets, dramatists, or novelists, must be taken cum grano when they see fit to pronounce on political issues. Not all, of course, but perhaps most. It is as if they are occupationally prone to conceiving the political arena as part of an aesthetic framework, susceptible to snug resolutions, rather than the messy and often insoluble dynamic that it is. They tend to confuse, in the words of E.M. Forster [8], plot with story … But Yehoshua represents a different case in point. He is not a foreigner but an Israeli writer whose ancestry, political engagement, and proximity to actual events should, one might assume, have freed him from the web of fantasy in which the literary mind is so easily snared and served to alert him to the structure of reality.

During one of our supper conversations in the university refectory, the subject turned to Israel’s impending disengagement from the Gaza Strip. Yehoshua, whose sympathies are robustly on the left and who tends to identify with those whom he regards as underdogs, a.k.a. the Palestinians, could not contain his enthusiasm for the process, making light of my skepticism. The great man knew. All would be well. It had to be. The Palestinians would recognize Israel’s readiness to endure sacrifices, would surely be grateful for the greenhouses and infrastructure left behind to promote their nascent economy, and would respond in good faith to this new and impressive initiative.

“Affirmative Action” at the University of Haifa: Supervisor of the Fabrication of the Tantora Massacre Thesis promoted to Full Professor

The University of Haifa just decided to promote Prof. Kais Firro to the rank of full professor, despite the fact that Firro has very few academic publications to his record. Firro is best known for having been the formal thesis advisor to the anti-Israel extremist Teddy Katz, in which the thesis fabricated an imaginary “massacre” of Arabs in the village of Tantora by the Alexandroni battalion of the Palmach during Israel’s War of Independence. Katz later admitted in court that the allegation was a fabrication. For details, see this: http://weeklystandard.com/check.asp?idArticle=99&r=jjldm While the malicious Ilan Pappe, back then on the faculty of the University of Haifa in political science, has generally been assumed to be the driving force behind the fabrication, Kais Firro officially supervised and approved the thesis and gave it a grade of 97. The University later revoked Katz’ degree and refused to recognize the thesis.

Why does University of Haifa sociologist Sammy Smooha cheer for Israel's enemies?

It's not just that Smooha embraces anti-Israel Arab elements and supports them in their attacks on Israel's existence. It's that he feels that Israel as a Jewish state is nothing more than an "ethnic democracy" for Jews, by which he means something BAD. He has built his career on claims that Oriental or Sephardic Jews are victims of discrimination in Israel. He has demonstrated little interest in the plight of Oriental Jews being bombed and rocketed by Palestinians in Sderot and Netivot in Israel’s south.. … the origins of the Smoohas in Israel's sociology world as "dedicated to advancing their ideology that they have come to focus far more on rewriting Israel's history than on examining the issues of the greatest concern to Israeli society today. Their proclivity for myth-smashing, coupled with their commitment to imported theoretical models preclude any serious discussion of the unique aspects of Israeli life and cause them to downplay, or even distort, historical facts. These problems are so acute that they call into question the credibility of sociological research in Israel.

University of Haifa - As'ad Ghanem (Dept of Political Science) declares founding of the State of Israel “a colonial action”; denies that Israel is a democracy

The only man in Israel deemed worthy of writing it is Dr. As'ad Ghanem, who by chance or not, was also the main drafter of a document entitled "The Future Vision of the Palestinian Arabs in Israel." This document includes these civic pearls: "Israel is the outcome of a colonialist action which was initiated by the Jewish-Zionist elites ... [it] was established by colonial states ... it continues conflicting with its neighbors incessantly ... and implementing a colonialist policy ... Israel cannot be defined as a democratic state. It can be defined as an ethnocratic state ... the state must acknowledge responsibility for the Nakba ... University of Hafia - Dr. Dalit Baum (Dept of Women's Studies) and the Academic Lesbians for Jihad

Back in Israel these days, Baum is teaching (if that is the right word) at the "Community School for Women," a lesbian feminist "school" she helped found. Baum, a loudly self-proclaimed lesbian, has managed to connect her anti-Israel animus to support for the greatest homophobes and persecutors of homosexuals in the world, the Arab Islamofascists and the Muslim states. There homosexuality is often a capital offense. She is a leading member of a group calling itself "QUIT," which stands for "Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism," a homosexual anti-Israel anarchist/Marxist group set up to demonize Jews and Israelis while excusing Arab homophobia and persecution of homosexuals. Dalit Baum embraces and supports the very same people who would kill her for being gay!! Perhaps that explains why she has never ventured into any Muslim country to preach her ideas.

University of Haifa holding a conference entitled, "Queer Experiences during the Third Reich and the Holocaust." Never mind that most of those "homosexuals" arrested and killed by the Nazis were in fact communists whose arrest as "homosexuals" was designed to humiliate them. The speakers include a mix of Israelis and Germans.

A Precis of Israeli Violations in the period

'The year 2008 is considered as the bloodiest. At the end of 2008, Israel has launched a wide genocide war against the Palestinian Gazans; due to that hundreds are killed, thousands are injured, and hundreds of the Palestinian houses, mosques, institutions and health care centers are demolished. Israel has been violating the International humanitarian law and committing war crimes.

'Israel is using Dense Inert Metal Explosives (DIME), depleted uranium weapons, bombs with cluster ammunition and phosphorous bombs; hundreds of innocent palestinian citizens are killed by these weapons, the majority of them are women, children and worshipers. Israel has employed it's [sic] full-fledged arsenal to attack Palestinian populated areas, ambulances, medics, universities, mosques, and schools.'

University of Haifa - Post-Zionist Uri Bar-Yosef (Dept of International Relations) thinks that since the Golan is not an air-tight defense, there is no reason why it should not be handed over to Syria

'According to the understandings that have already been reached with the Syrians during previous talks, the area between Damascus and the border with Israel would be demilitarized on the basis of the Sinai model in the peace agreement with Egypt. In that situation, no Israeli target would be in the range of Syrian artillery.'

[Hmmm, where have we had such things before.]

University of Haifa - Yuval Yonay (Dept of Sociology) - Literacy does not seem to be part of the job requirement for faculty at the University of Haifa:

University of Haifa's Yuval Yonay, explains why the Hamas is murdering Jews, as posted on the Segel-Plus chat list:

Why do tyhey [sic] desire death? Might they be desperate? Can one imagine why? Have they sought death for millenia [sic]? Or does it have something to do with being under occupation, watching their hhopes [sic] being shuttered [sic] again and again?

University of Haifa - Hannah Safran (Dept. of Women's Studies), writing in the anti-Semitic web magazine Counterpunch

'Once again we face a leadership that knows one solution only: WAR....You cannot put an end to injustice with military power and destruction. The Palestinians are fed up with this approach and they are not likely to sit and wait peacefully until Israel realizes that there is no military solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. '

Anti-Israel Violence Rampant at the University of Haifa and the Hebrew University; Administrations Turns a Blind Eye:

'Hundreds of students from the University of Haifa participated in a rowdy demonstration against Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip Tuesday afternoon, clashing with police as the servicemen separated between them and students demonstrating in support of the IDF operation in the Strip.

Twelve of the demonstrators were arrested for allegedly attacking police officers.'

University of Haifa - Avraham Oz (Dept of Comparative Literature) applauds role in charges of fictitious "War Crimes" brought against IDF Officers.
Also laments the recent transparency to previously "privileged secrecy of proceedings" that allows for "administrators to get rid of faculty".

This is my country:
Where conscientious citizens objecting to atrocities perpetrated in their name by generals, officers, and soldiers in active service and reserves, are pursuing their bringing to international justice for war crimes, since the Israeli justice system shuns its moral obligations. And where such citizens are threatened by a senior Likud MP Steinitz (a former colleague at my university - where else?) who attempts to legislate a "treason law," remindful of dark ages, whereby such conscientious citizens will be prosecuted and serve jail for their initiative.

This is my country:
Where a university, where classes on democracy are given, is opening a military program of studies for intelligence cadets to study on campus in uniform, appropriating a whole section of the students dormitories (far from answering the needs of Arab and needed Jewish students), to become military quarters of sorts (you guessed right, my own university); while still not recognizing the elected Arab students committee (representing about 20% of the students), nor the demand to put signs in Arabic (an official language in Israel) on campus, closing down its theatre for mounting plays in Arabic, or forbidding a Christmas tree to be placed near a HANUKKA lamp while the two religious holidays concur; and rather, using its dwindling budget to hiring private law firms to prepare the legal grounds why NOT to put such signs in Arabic, or to dispute a recent court ruling preferring transparency to privileged secrecy of proceedings (which grant immunity to administrators to get rid of faculty far from the public eye).

University of Haifa - Haggai Kupermintz is one professor of education who needs educating about PLO intentions

Kupermintz, the Professor of Education, showed his lack of realistic education right after the Passover Massacre in 2002 … where 31 Israelis, most of them Holocaust survivors, were blown to bits during a Passover Seder in Netanya. The bomber should have been of interest to Professor of Education Haggai Kupermintz because he was a Palestinian Arab youth and a graduate of the then eight-year-old Palestinian hate-education system. The Arab killer was a product of an Arab regime that heralds suicide bombing, pays the families of killers for martyrdom, and even abuses ambulances for the transfer of suicide bombers, all the while promoting anti-Jewish, anti-Israel and anti-US hatred through its education programs in all forms of media.

Where was a letter or petition from Haggai as an educator and supporter of Peace Education to Arafat about such misuse of education? Instead, Kupermintz signed a petition objecting to the taking of the Mukata, an act which provided evidence that the Palestinian leadership under Arafat and Abbas themselves had not only authorized the Passover Massacre attack but that Arafat had personally authorized payment for it.

University of Haifa - Ron Kuzar (Dept of English) - fan of the "Canaanite" movement of post-Jewishness - deconstructs and prettifies the "Palestinian Right to Return," discovers it means something other than the annihilation of Israel, a discovery that will come as a great shock to the Palestinians:

"The Term Return in the Palestinian Discourse on the Right of Return"
2008, Discourse & Society 19(5)

'The term return is used in the English texts of contemporary Palestinian political authors writing on the Right of Return of Palestinians to their homes and homeland. The first part is dedicated to a semantic analysis of return as a radial category with a core meaning and extensions. Then the meanings of return in these texts are discussed, as used in the discourse of Palestinian maximalists versus pragmatists. It is shown that (1) different meanings of return are selected according to whether the writer is a maximalist or a pragmatist, and (2) a reality that harmonizes with these meanings is narratively constructed.'

(We would like to see Kuzar present his findings in Gaza City!)

University of Haifa - Professor Dalia Sachs is a “feminist” whose concern for women is selective

Unfortunately, like many radical leftist academics in Israel, this woman, whose expertise is in a form of therapy in which patients are encouraged to engage in vocational tasks or expressive activities, such as art or dance, usually in a social setting, fancies herself a research sociologist on the state of women in Israel and somehow ties it all in with the Security Fence and support for the goals of Israel’s enemies.

University of Haifa - Who needs Shakespeare?

Here is what they are teaching in the English Department at the University of Haifa (guest lecturer from Tel Aviv University):

'The Israeli queer activist group "Black Laundry" emerged in 2001 following the outbreak of the second Intifada. Black Laundry effected a two-fold shift in Israeli LGBT politics - both in its move from identity politics narrowly defined (i.e. a politics focused solely on the interests of the LGBT community) to a politics of identification concerned with the occupation as well as with other types of oppression...'

University of Haifa -  Professor Avraham Oz (Dept. of General Studies) - The Lizard of Oz - encourages fellow academics to hate Israel

.."[We want to] express our appreciation and support for those of our students and lecturers who refuse to serve as soldiers in the occupied territories. Such service too often involves carrying out orders that have no place in a democratic society founded on the sanctity of human life." Oz, who probably never served in the Territories, once wrote, "The average Israeli kids go to the army and turn [into] sadistic animals!" (but they sure don't pass out candy or dance in the street when Arab terrorists are killed, or parade with machineguns). Oz is also quoted as saying "The repressive policies of my country against the Palestinian population is appalling, racist, sometimes horrifying in its cruelty, and often having crossed the boundaries of war crimes...."

Ah, yes, Israel is guilty of war crimes, another trope of the PA propaganda ministries where maybe the Wizard Named Oz really wants to practice his literary skills. And, of course, Israel is responsible for Arab terrorism against itself: "A gigantic army tramples over a small nation. Soldiers performing mass arrests, scaring little children, humiliating their parents, fostering a new generation of suicide bombers, and ensuring the continuation of the conflict for posterity." (note: the italicized terms are all used in PA propaganda despite no compelling evidence there is any truth to it other than constant repetition in the Meida. There also is no Palestinian “nation” yet, due to Arab terrorism and Israel is the size of a postage stamp compared to the Arab world.)

University of Haifa - Ilan Gur-Zeev (Dept. of Education) thinks Israel is colonialist and phalocentric

Ilan Gur-Zeev wrote this on Segel-Plus list May 29, 2008:

'In light of the relations between current postmodern rhetorical, psychic, philosophical and political trends and its articulation within postcolonialist frameworks it is a challenge well beyond the signification of "degrees" of "old" anti-Semitic "influences" or "degrees" of Israeli manipulations of anti-Semitic attacks as a gate for Israeli escape from responsibility and self-awareness. ... . In boycotting Israeli academia, therefore, you are closer to struggling the Lutziferian power, or, the essence of colonialism, namely, the quest to overcome heterogeneity, diversity, otherness and the quest for violent "consensus", "truth", and (American like) "peace" that is conditioned by so much suffering of the marginalized, silenced ones and all "others" to the Judeo-Christian/phalocentrist colonialism that "America"/Israel serve today as its most violent agent.

Boycotting Israeli academia, therefore, must overcome the facts of what really happened in the Teddy Kats affair or in "Jenin, Jenin" and so forth, since it is a moral and psychic drive to overcome this world of facts, this triumph of the universalization of Jewish essence - AVODA KODESH that many academics, NGO activist and so many transformative-oriented frustrated soles are committed to....'

University of Haifa - Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi (Dept. of Psychology) claims that Israel supported oppressive regimes to divert attention away from "colonialism of Arab lands"

Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi is Professor of Psychology at the University of Haifa and has written a series of books and articles painting Israel as an evil imperialist militarist society. Compared to most other anti-Israel Israeli academics, Beit-Hallahmi has produced academic papers in his field and has published research and books beyond works sponsored or paid for by the PLO or European Union. His specialty is in the study of cults.

Hallahmi's book, "The Israeli Connection: Who Israel Arms and Why,” is in fact a conspiracy theory in which Israel allegedly sold arms to Central America and South Africa, as well as to the Shah's Iran wherein Beit-Hallahmi suggests Israel, as an oppressive colonialist enterprise, sought to maintain colonization in those other parts of the world as a way to protect its own colonialism of Arab lands.

Israeli Academics threaten the future of the Israeli State

A list of Anti-Israel statements and actions are laid out in the following article.

Among those mentioned are Haifa University politics professor Ilan Pappe, who is quoted saying:

  • “I want people to boycott Israeli institutes.”

  • “I think the de-Zionisation of Israel is a pre-condition for peace; I have no doubt about that.”

and Ben-Gurion University politics lecturer Neve Gordon who went to Ramallah in February 2002 and clasped hands with Yasser Arafat.

Haifa University - Partial Holocaust Denial on University of Haifa Chat List

The ALEF list is a list for outright anti-Semites, cheerleaders for terrorism, and Neo-Nazis, operating through the University of Haifa computer and under its auspices as a university chat list. The 'dialogue' concerning the Holocaust began when one Shraga Elam, an ex-Israel best known for his lavish praise for David Irving, claimed that 'at most' 5.1 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis during World War II. This was supposed to be based on an estimate of the world Jewish population posted on a Hebrew University web site by HU's demographer Prof. Sergio DellaPergola here.

There it says that there were 11 million Jews world wide (elsewhere it says 11.4) after World War II and 16.5 before the war in the entire world.

Elam and his ilk then claim that 'at most' 5.1 million Jews were murdered, and the 'Six Million' number is Zionist propaganda. Elam was then joined on the ALEF list by Stalinist British anti-Semite Tony Greenstein and others (including a professor of psychology from Haifa University), who agreed.

This is all familiar stuff taken from Neo-Nazi and Holocaust Denial web sites, who make similar 'statistical arguments.'

University of Haifa - Avraham Oz (Dept. of Theater) writes to his ALEF colleagues on March 12, 2008:

Dear friends,

This message was posted last night to the faculty circuit of the University of Haifa by the notorious Steven Plaut, a  Professor of Business Administration at the University, who has recently resorted to energetic political activism on the circuit, having reduced for some reason his regular contribution to "web site", in which he urged his readers to send hate mails to a group of Israeli dissenting university professors, providing our addresses. Do open the link below: it speaks for itself. You may be relieved to know I have immediately been summoned to the Dean. Let's see what happens.

For better days,

Your mailman

Columnist Steven Shamrak denounced "self-hate, disloyalty to their own country and self-destructiveness" by Israeli Academics:

'It is astonishing what is happening on the political front in Israel's universities. The level of self-hate, disloyalty to their own country and self-destructiveness is unprecedented:

'At the Tel Aviv University: Gadi Algazi, a history professor, stated: "Commercial and political exploitation of lands stolen by Israel." I wonder where he got his qualification from? Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy, Anat Biletzki claims that she is working for the human rights of the Palestinians but completely ignores the Jewish right for land and Israel's right to exist and requirements for self-defence.

'At the University of Haifa: Professor of Psychology Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi, in addition to his pro-Arab views, proclaimed that the rights to free speech, freedom of association and freedom of religion do not exist in Israel. In this case, why is he is not in jail? Could he tell us how many Arab or Muslim organizations he knows that are able to take similar anti-government statements in their own countries?'

Technion, University of Haifa, and Hebrew University - For Professors Jacob and Tamar Katriel and their children, bashing Israel is a family affair - by Lee Kaplan

"Jacob Katriel is in fact a Stalinist communist ideologue who has been a central figure in Israel’s communist party that is mostly dominated by Arab-Israeli members who are irredentists against Israel’s Jews. If it has anything to do with smearing the Jewish state, Katriel will do it while reaping the rewards of his tenured retirement sinecure paid for by the Israeli taxpayer and donors to Israeli universities. His wife and children are equally close allies in damning Israel any way they can. Among Katriel’s major efforts, supported equally by all members of his family, are attempts to compare Israel with apartheid South Africa in order to promote worldwide divestment making a false comparison with what was a genuinely racist South African regime back in the 1980’s."

University of Haifa - Yuval Yonay (Dept. of Sociology) is upset about "Racism" at his own university (from Segel Plus chat List)

"(Original spelling, uncorrected) Yonay: 'Attached is a disturbing story from yesterday (sic) local newspaper. It might serve a model in fascist classes how to use use (sic) half truths, straight lies, fears and demagogy to foster polarization and hatred. Arab students (who, for the authors, are all muslims (sic), as all Hadah (sic) supporters are) dare to be visible; they are threatening because they put Che Gavara (sic) on their shirts; they are politically active -- what a cynical exploit (sic) of democracy. They can demonstrate everywhere and whenever they want (in reality, they can demonstrate for 2 hours every week, on Mondays and Wednesday, 11:45-12:15 and 13:45-14:15). It is also their fault that there are no dukhanim of Jewish organization. In short, you don't have to learn fascism to talk like Gobbles (sic). I hope our spokeperson (sic) do (sic) something about it.' Yuval"

University of Haifa - Micah Leshem (Dept. of Psychology) - Malignant Anti-Israel Ignorance, by Dr. Gary Katz

'With all due respect, Leshem's 'Israel's right to be racist' was an abject hate-filled diatribe of poorly written and researched slogans, a pure symptom of the lack of accountability, upholding of academic standards, and pathology that permeates Israeli academia. Not only was any semblance of objectivity or decency not present, but also it betrayed much more about the pathology of the Israeli extreme-left than it did about anything having to do with our daily reality in Israel. When it comes to Israel-bashing it is a worldwide free ride with no risk, accountability or need to back up the filth spewed; all with the falsification that the haters are taking great risks and exhibiting unparalleled courage by joining the world-wide "hate Israel" sideshow."'

University of Haifa -  About Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi's (Dept of Psychology) book "The Israeli Connection: Whom Israel Arms and Why"

This book has examined the connections first of radical Zionism, and second, of the form in which it penetrated the state, with the Nazis and other groups of fascist tendency links that will surely surprise most readers. We've also stressed the important links between certain radical circles in the Israeli administration and post-war fascists. During the Cold War, dictators and juntas all over the globe gladly established close, yet often highly confidential, working relationships with certain circles in the Israeli administration.

That these circles influential in the Israeli administration support fascist regimes and organizations worldwide is established in detail by Israeli writer Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi. According to his book The Israeli Connection: Whom Israel Arms and Why, Israel has insured the "stability" by supporting oppressive regimes all over the world.

Ilan Pappe Invents 'Ethnic cleansing in Palestine'

In his recently released book The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, Pappe claims that Israel prepared a special plan for the ethnic cleansing of Palestine's Arab population known as Plan D for dalet. Pappe's "evidence" is derived from his interpretations of files found in the Hagana and Israel state archives...But Pappe makes one egregious mistake. He never bothers to ask the same question of the Arabs he does of the Jews: What about their lists, their intelligence reports and their ethnic-cleansing plans? What were Arab intentions in the five months between the passage of the UN partition plan on November 29, 1947, and the birth of Israel?

llan Pappe's "New History"

Pappe outlines Plan D (Dalet in Hebrew), which followed earlier plans A, B and C, and included forcible expulsion of some 800,000 Palestinians from both urban and rural areas with the objective of creating by any means necessary an exclusive Jewish state without an Arab presence. The methods ranged from a campaign of disinformation -- “get out immediately because the Jews are on their way to kill you” -- to Jewish militia attacks to terrorize the Palestinians.

... There is no doubt in Pappe’s mind that Plan D “was a clear-cut case of an ethnic cleansing operation, regarded under international law today as a crime against humanity.”

Ilan Pappe on the "Electronic Intifada" Web Site

Like those enlightened pundits who used liberal organs in the United Kingdom, such as The Guardian, to explain to us at length how dangerous is the proposed academic boycott on Israel. They have never expended so much time, energy or words on the occupation itself as they did in the service of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine. UNISON, Britain’s large public service trade union, must not be deterred by this backlash and it should follow these brave academics who endorsed the debate on the boycott, as should Europe as a whole: not only for the sake of Palestine and Israel, but also if it wishes to bring a closure to the Holocaust chapter in its history.

... To its credit one should openly say that the means used by Hamas are part of an arsenal that enabled it in the past to be the only active force that at least tried to stop the total destruction of Palestine

Title from Haifa weekly - 'Islam Extends its Influence in the University'

More than 80% of the students in Israeli higher-education system are Jewish… this fact is not felt on the Haifan campus… Students complain that extreme Arab students distribute materials on the verge of incitement/vilification ['hasata'; in fact, students need to submit everything they distribute—even an invitation to an academic event—for approval by the Dean of students Office; sometime distribution is delayed because there is no one who knows Arabic available]. .''

... Unfortunately the university encourages this in the name of the freedom of speech, but it verges on cynical exploitation. With their shirts carrying the images of Azmi Bishara and Che Guevara they seem like soldiers on the eve of a battle [the similarity of what the anonymous official and the anonymous student said throws doubt on the authenticity of both cited quotes]....We often hear from students, employees, and even [the supposed to be leftist Palestinian sympathizers] that they feel as if the University of Haifa were a branch of Bir Zeit (Palestinian college).'

University of Haifa - Yuval Yonay (Dept. of Sociology) and In-Classroom anti-Israel Indoctrination at the University of Haifa

The University of Haifa currently offers a propaganda indoctrination course based on one-sided propaganda being taught as "scholarship". It is in the Department of Sociology and is entitled "The Sociology of the Occupation". It is taught by an anti-Zionist lecturer who is probably the Hamas' second-favorite lecturer at the University of Haifa: Dr. Yuval Yonay. Yonay is a close collaborator with Ilan Pappe, including in promoting boycotts of Israel and "divestment". He helped to organize a series of "Nakba Days" at the University of Haifa with Pappe, in which Israelis were called upon to mourn the creation and very existence of their own country as a "catastrophe" (nakba, in Arabic).
