University of Haifa - The World according to
Micah Leshem (Dept of Psychology), posted on the "Segel-Plus"
discussion list at the University of Haifa on February 7, 2011:
While Israel is one
of the stable regimes in the Middle East, it is also one of the
major destablizers of the Middle East. With its consistent policy of
stealing Arab lands and populating them with Jews, daily outrages
against Arabs and their homes, their endless mass detention, its
periodic brutal military adventures involving the mass killings of
Arab citizens, and persistent refusal to negotiate peace in good
faith (eg the Saudi initiative, UN 242) it has contributed much to
the rift between Arabs and their leadership.

Interesting article,
Fania, but like all the others, misses the point that we are no
innocent bystanders here. While Israel is one of the stable regimes
in the Middle East, it is also one of the major destablizers of the
Middle East. With its consistent policy of stealing Arab lands and
populating them with Jews, daily outrages against Arabs and their
homes, their endless mass detention, its periodic brutal military
adventures involving the mass killings of Arab citizens, and
persistent refusal to negotiate peace in good faith (eg the Saudi
initiative, UN 242) it has contributed much to the rift between
Arabs and their leadership, eg by preventing Mubarak from cementing
a true peace with Israel that could have spearheaded a general peace
here instead of leaving Egypt precariously excusing its agreement
with Israel which all the while clobbers Egypt's friends and allies
and undermines its popular mandate (I now see President Perez [sic]
takes the same view – you read it first here)..
We all believe the
Shabbach [sic] and its colleagues in Mossad and IDF know the outcome
of these events, forgetting how these genius analysts totally failed
to predicted them (same geniuses who kept their jobs after assuring
us about Saddam's WMDs (twice – spending 9-10 milliard [sic] shekels
on gas masks) and we now we are all agreed with their inspired
intelligence that the Muslim brotherhood spells disaster for Israel
etc, as we uncritically believed them on Fatah and now Hamas.
Truth is, no one here
has a clue, but is using our usual reflex tactic predicting the
worst so that our gung-ho Military and its Ministerial progeny can
act it before they can think – witness Bibi's hallucinatory and
inane instructions to our diplomats to engender [sic] support for
Mubarak.
None of this was in
your article, Fania, but then few Israelis want to admit any wrong
headedness [sic] on our part – Denial rules.
It would be
instructive to consider the response of the masses in Rabin Square
and Ramle, and our Government's negotiating stance, while a million
Palestinians return to settle their homeland in the Sharon, Negev
and Galilee, their towns and moshavim, under the their self-defined
Law of Return and legal auspices of UN 242 stating that THE
territory remains negotiable.
